Just don't feel too down if the first draft stinks. It's supposed to!!! It's a draft:)
Robert Everthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08511309474288403831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219408317753791302.post-50356224148773402692013-04-12T08:05:10.884-04:002013-04-12T08:05:10.884-04:00Thanks for sharing this with us! It was really interesting to read, especially because I am finding myself faced with the daunting task of rewriting my first draft, and I'm nervous to make any changes. This post might help me to be braver. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04785091580264509710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219408317753791302.post-62454626653944183622013-03-11T13:52:17.615-04:002013-03-11T13:52:17.615-04:00My kids LOVE Percy Jackson!! I'm a bit worried that it'll put off other readers.

Thanks for stopping by, Danielle! And remember, just because Edmund doesn't die in the first book, that doesn't mean he won't in the second!!!! Mew ha ha!!!!!! Good to see you.

And I think you're right, part of the change is that we need to realize that our writing sucks at times.

And with dialogue, you're right again. There has to be different speaking styles, inflections and so forth. That's what really sets off good writers from the newbies!

Hey, do you have something coming out soon? I thought I heard that you had a book or short story coming out. It kind of reminds me of the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. He started creating this world and these characters for his children, making these demigods dyslexic as a way to show the kids that they too could be heroes. It's extremely admirable, and actually makes me appreciate Edmund even more.

I'm also glad that Edmund became nicer and shyer. It was nice to see him grow through the story, becoming a little more sure of himself and better able to defend himself and his friends.

Thanks for writing this post, and I'm really glad the ending changed so Edmund didn't die. That would have made for a disappointing story, at least in my opinion.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01274405738778235508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4219408317753791302.post-57807676873023043112013-03-08T12:48:26.404-05:002013-03-08T12:48:26.404-05:00A good post, Robert. But part of the challenge is in recognising what feedback is good and what isn't.

So, I wouldn't suggest a writer always views each comment/bit of advice as valid. (I know you haven't said that.)

Regarding the dialog bit, there's one thing I'd add to that. In addition to making the dialog different for characters, I think an essential part of being a good writer is versatility. With language.

If you learn how to write in various styles, then you have the tools to write whatever story you're writing well.

So, I personally think the really good writers aren't those who try and stick to one style.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14326224688826179127noreply@blogger.com
